Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action

Under the leadership of the High-Level Champions, the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action supports implementation of the Paris Agreement by enabling collaboration between governments and the cities, regions, businesses and investors that must act on climate change.

Our mission is to strengthen collaboration between governments and key stakeholders to immediately lower emissions and increase resilience against climate impacts. These actions are guided by the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement and undertaken in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The focus is on environmental, economic and social system transformation, promoting higher ambition of all stakeholders to collectively strive for the 1.5 °C temperature goal and a climate-neutral and resilient world.

Breakthroughs

2030 Breakthroughs

The 2030 Breakthroughs pinpoint specific tipping points across a range of sectors within the areas that must be achieved by 2030 to keep on track with the Pathways’ vision. They include a challenge for at least 20 per cent of key players across sectors to join Race to Zero, thus demonstrating sectoral support for the necessary transformation. The idea is that, by generating enough momentum among a critical mass of actors within a sector, the pace of systemic change picks up to the point of no return.

Breakthrough Agenda

The Breakthrough Agenda was launched by 45 world leaders at COP 26 and is a commitment to work together this decade to accelerate innovation and deployment of clean technologies, making them accessible and affordable for all. To kick start this Agenda, countries endorsed the goals of making clean technologies and sustainable practices more affordable, accessible, and attractive compared to their alternatives by 2030 in the power, road transport, steel, hydrogen and agriculture sectors.

Sharm-El-Sheikh Adaptation Agenda

Recognising that progress towards adapting to climate consequences and enhancing resilience is crucially needed, the COP 27 Presidency presented the Sharm-El-Sheikh Adaptation Agenda in partnership with the High-Level Champions and the Marrakech Partnership. It portrays a total of 30 global adaptation outcome targets by 2030 that are urgently needed to increase the resilience of four billion people to accelerate transformation across five impact systems: food and agriculture, water and nature, coastal and oceans, human settlements, and infrastructure, and including enabling solutions for planning and finance.
