LAKI in the Amazon region

In 2026, LAKI is focusing on the Amazon subregion, comprising Bolivia (Plurinational State of), Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of). The subregion has been identified as a priority given its high ecological and social sensitivity, the transboundary nature of climate risks affecting the Amazon basin and the central role of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in sustaining ecosystem resilience and adaptive capacity.

In this context, the secretariat is engaging with partners in the subregion to support a more integrated, forward-looking and knowledge-inclusive approach to subregional collaboration on adaptation. The secretariat will convene a priority-setting workshop in 2026 to convene a group of diverse knowledge holders from across the Amazon subregion.

The workshop will review and validate the identified knowledge and know-how gaps, assess their relevance in the context of evolving climate risks and development pathways, and prioritize those gaps that most constrain adaptation planning and implementation in the region. The group of knowledge holders will also identify practical pathways and collaborative response actions to address priority gaps, including opportunities for strengthening knowledge exchange, improving accessibility and usability of adaptation information, and mobilizing partnerships to support implementation. The outcomes of the process are expected to inform future regional collaboration, strengthen the usability of adaptation knowledge and know-how, and contribute to scaling up adaptation action across the Amazon subregion.
