Context

Through decision 4/CP.23 ‘Koronivia joint work on agriculture’ the COP requested the SBSTA and SBI to jointly address issues related to agriculture, including through workshops and expert meetings, working with constituted bodies under the Convention and taking into consideration the vulnerabilities of agriculture to climate change and approaches to addressing food security.

Parties set out a road map of work under the Koronivia joint work on agriculture, as contained in annex I of FCCC/SBI/2018/9 and FCCC/SBSTA/2018/4, including six workshops to be held sequentially from 2018 to 2020. All workshops have been organized successfully. The SBSTA and the SBI are now requested to report to COP 26 on the progress and outcomes of the work. Parties and observers are invited to provide their views via the submission portal on future topics not listed in decision 4/CP.23 and on the progress of the KJWA for consideration in the report of the SBI and the SBSTA to the COP.

Objective

The objective of this activity is to provide an informal space for Parties to undertake consultations under the guidance of the SBSTA Chair and the SBI Chair on possible activities that can support Parties in their preparations of a report to COP 26 on the progress and outcomes of the KJWA.

Description

The SB Chairs would like to hear Parties’ views on how the Chairs can assist them in advancing the Koronivia joint work on agriculture to deliver at COP26 the outcome expected by Parties and other stakeholders. They would also like to hear suggestions from Parties on the organization of the inter-sessional workshop mandated by SBSTA 50 and SBI 50.
